Chelsea 2 Spurs 0

Undoubtedly, this is the most crucial match of the season. The current batch of predominantly global players should understand this. Regardless, they will know after the game. The statistics are evident. Out of 31 games, there were 19 wins, 11 draws, and 1 defeat. The fan vibes align with this sentiment: losing to Spurs is unacceptable.

The stand-in captain, Gallagher, was appropriately honored by the Shed End, which displayed a banner in support before the game.

Chelsea entered the match with 14 injuries, a further embarrassment for the ownership. Ironically, many of the now-starting 11 probably belong to the better ones out of the squad. Moreover, those playing now are building chemistry faster.

Tottenham, on the other hand, made significant changes in the midfield, including Maddison. This was due to Postecoglou’s assessment of form after losing 4-0 to Newcastle and the North London derby to Arsenal 2-3. Werner, who suffered a minor injury, was unavailable for the Stamford Bridge clash.

Both teams started with a bit of menace, but Chelsea’s opportunities were more threatening. Just after 20 minutes, Gallegahar swung in a free kick from the right, which Chalobah met with a powerful header, scoring the first goal. This goal boosted the Blues’ confidence, but Mudryk, Madueke & Jackson couldn’t add to the scoreline.

Spurs’ Australian coach had been unusually vocal on the sideline, signaling a more offensive intent. Chelsea, known for its inconsistent defense, managed to hold on as Spurs looked to equalise.

Spurs, already dominating, made three early changes, bringing on Maddison, Bentancur, and Højbjerg. Chelsea’s defense held on, and after the 70th minute, a wonderful Palmer free kick led to a goal, as Jackson managed to head the rebound off the bar over two Spurs defenders stranded on the goaline making it 2-0.

Despite the threat of a Spurs comeback, Chelsea’s defense held firm. Madueke had a dynamic game, taking on defenders down the right flank. Mudryk, however, had an indifferent performance.

Pochettino utilised many young academy students on the bench, including, Acheampong, and Tauriainen.

In the end, Chelsea celebrated a victory over their North London rivals. Despite the injuries, Pochettino steered his side to victory, leaving them just 3 points away from Manchester United in European qualification and 6th place.

Tottenham lost ground to Villa in fourth place. They have also only managed two clean sheets in their past 25 Premier League games and conceded from yet another set-piece in this match.
